Our vision is a thriving Solidarity Economy for the UK – an economy that embodies the values of economic and social justice, diversity and pluralism, co-operation, self-management, and ecological sustainability.
Another economy is not just possible: it’s already happening.
Why #SolidarityEconomy?
Grassroots economic activity is happening all over the world that puts the wellbeing of everyone above profit for the few. From worker co-ops to alternative currencies, community land trusts to Free and Open Source software projects – these initiatives share common values that are about improving the lives and livelihoods of people and our planet.
Co-operation: People uniting voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs through jointly-owned and democratically-controlled enterprise.
Sustainability: Initiatives within the solidarity economy value the planet and don’t do things that are ecologically damaging.
Democracy: Individuals have shared responsibility and decision-making is democratic, so that everyone’s voice is valued.
Wellbeing: Individual and collective wellbeing is more important than maximising profit.
