Celebrating 20 years of intercontinental solidarity and the Lima Declaration

RIPESS marks 20th anniversary of Lima Declaration

The first meeting of the globalization of solidarity was held in Lima, Peru, from the 1st to the 4th of July 1997, as part of GRESP, the Peruvian network for the solidarity economy. From this meeting and declaration, the desire to internationalize the SSE movement was strongly expressed, and the formal network was officially born as “RIPESS” five years later, in December 2002.

In the hearts and minds of all those who contributed to the RIPESS movement, and those who continue to do so, the meeting in Lima undoubtedly marked the symbolic creation of a global collective dynamic to unite forces to counter unchecked globalization.

RIPESS is asking all its members to take stock of all that we’ve achieved as an international movement, to look at what we’ve committed to, and what we could improve. As a UK member of RIPESS, SEA is proud to be part of this thriving global collective, and we’re working hard to make sure that more and more people here in the UK are aware of this diverse and powerful international movement.

If you haven’t already, you can read the Lima Declaration, and find out more about RIPESS on their website.
